Everything We Care About: People, Planet, Passion

The fashion industry, once dazzling in its glamour, is now peeling back its darker layers. While some brands are embracing change for the better, there's still dirty laundry to air.

Drawing from the wisdom of environmentalist Vandana Shiva and her eye-opening documentaries, alongside our first hand experience, let's dive into the tangled web of dissonance in the fashion world and find our way to ethical transformation.

People: Caring for the Hands Behind Our Clothes

Toxic vs. Organic & Natural

Beneath fashion's glimmer lies a stark reality: many workers face exploitation. Forced into hazardous conditions with toxic fabrics and dyes, they sacrifice their well-being for survival. Fast fashion fuels this vicious cycle, prioritising profit over people. Transitioning to sustainable practices, like using organic fabrics and natural dyes, is essential for breaking this harmful cycle.

At our core, we're committed to embracing natural methods. Partnering with HH Clothing in India, we've pioneered a way to dye our garments naturally. Yes, it may not be as colour-fast, but we see beauty in its imperfection—a testament to the vibrational frequency of botanical plants. We hope our journey inspires others to explore natural dyeing techniques, fostering a healthier future for workers and the planet.

Good Working Conditions & Fair Pay

In an industry rife in poor pay and dismal working conditions, we stand for something different. When we chose to collaborate with HH Clothing, we prioritised the well-being of their workers. Deanna has spent months on-site to really see if they're happy, paid fairly, and thriving. After all, the energy of the hands that craft our clothes ripples through the fabric. Shouldn't we all wear garments infused with healthy energy?

Planet: Caring and Protecting Mama Earth

Fashion's Environmental Toll

The environmental impact of fashion stretches far beyond factory walls, leaving scars on our planet. As Shiva stresses responsible agriculture, we must reckon with fashion's ecological footprint. Water pollution and waste mismanagement run rampant, with profit often trumping planet care.

Since spending time in India, Deanna discovered that actually now a lot of manufacturers champion sustainability, and it’s just part of the process to reuse their grey water. However, there are still other manufacturers who are polluting our waterways with toxic waste. Again this is sometimes more about money. These littler operations don’t have the income to make sustainable changes and are kept in this cycle due to the demands of fast fashion. As conscious consumers, our demand for clean food and beauty products should extend to our clothing choices, don’t you think?

Eco-Conscious Alternatives: Are They Truly Eco?

Recycled polyester emerges as a promising solution to fashion's environmental woes. Yet, its sustainability hinges on factors like energy consumption and carbon footprint. As conscious consumers, we scrutinise its lifecycle to ensure it aligns with our values. While we've embraced recycled polyester for our Indian-made garments, we continue to ask the tough questions. For now, it's a step in the right direction, but we're committed to finding even healthier alternatives.

Investing in healthy alternatives may demand dedication, but it's a vital stride toward a healthy industry, people and planet.

Passion: Why We Exist

At our core, dea is about more than just clothes—it's a mission. We create garments that honour both the earth and the body, because we recognise the link between our health and the toxins we encounter daily. From our underwear to our entire collection, we dye our fabrics naturally, without chemicals. We use only GOTS certified organic fabrics. Our fascination with colour psychology drives us, as we explore the impact of natural hues on the soul.

As we navigate fashion's maze, Shiva's wisdom guides us, reminding us of the ripple effect of our choices. By advocating for fair labour, embracing sustainability, and challenging fast fashion's status quo, we can spark real transformation.

Knowledge is Power. Let's use it to transform the world.
