Heal Earth, Heal Skin

Hello loves,

Did you know that the average human being living in our beautiful world puts over 150 chemicals on their body each day?

People have been told over and over by society that they have to be more than what they simply are, and so begins the rhetoric that natural isn’t enough.

As a result many industries aren’t in sync with nature. More often than not, even the clothes we wear are made with toxic fabrics, dyes and threads, contributing to the chemicals we’re absorbing each and every day.

Where Did the Disconnect Start?

The first synthetic dye was used commercially as long ago as 1857. It was the colour mauve and its staggering success in the industry of fabric manufacture and fashion meant that it became a catalyst for widespread usage of chemical dyes. Over the last 100 years as the age of fast fashion birthed itself into the world, we have begun to see the impact that working with these chemicals has had on the bodies of those laboring with them each day.

Reports of serious health issues are common – for those working with the dyes and those wearing them, not to mention the terrible impact that these toxins have had on our waterways, our oceans and our ecosystems.

Toxic-overload & Skin Conditions

We are living in times of toxic-overload – from the clothes we are wearing, right down to the air we breathe – the health and vitality of our skin depends on how well we look after it. We now know how many people are struggling with conditions such as eczema, psoriasis or other skin allergies.

15-20% of children and 2-10% of adults in this world have some form of eczema.

What we wear against our skin is a huge part of our wellbeing routine, just like choosing what moisturiser to use or what food to eat. It has an impact.

Nature is the Answer

Nature. The essence of everything.

There is a story that we’ve been told about how there are layers between what constitutes us and what constitutes nature. Many of us perceive our bodies, or even our skin, as a barrier or an edge – where we as human beings end and the external world, the natural world, begins. A nature/culture divide.

We are not actually so separate from our environment. It’s all just changing matter, an illusion of difference. As humans we are as much nature as the tui sucking from harakeke flowers outside our window, as much nature as the flowers themselves, as much nature as the earth that holds the plant steady. Our bodies are about 60% water. We are made up of cells, just as a leaf is made up of cells. Let's celebrate this connection.

Clothing Your Skin Loves

By putting GOTS certified organic fabrics against our skin, sewn with tencel threads and dyed with natural dyes, we are reaching out to humanity and the planet’s health. Chemically made fabrics against the skin create a disconnect between body and nature – dea works to soften and to harmonise with your skin and the earth.

Our founder Deanna has had her own journey with eczema and created our debut collection around the knowledge she collated from these skin sensitivities, promising to soothe instead of irritate.

Come on a journey with us as we embrace a ‘less is more’ attitude. Why be complicated when you can be simple, sensitive and safe for all skin types? As well as loving for the planet.
